This little corner of the internet is where I’ll share the real story behind Tangled Roots Potting Bar. Not just the pretty photos and finished creations, but the behind-the-scenes moments, lessons I’m learning, projects I’m dreaming up, and the occasional “what was I thinking?” moments along the way.

My goal is to share a new post each week, or at least as often as life and plants allow. I hope you’ll pull up a chair, follow along, and grow with me as this little dream continues to bloom.

If you’ve ever met me at a market or a potting party, you already know one thing about me…

I’d much rather have dirt under my fingernails than spend hours behind a computer.

Starting Tangled Roots Potting Bar has been one of the most exciting, rewarding, and challenging adventures of my life. Before this, I’d never owned a business. I knew how to care for people, and I knew how to care for plants, but websites, marketing, bookkeeping, shipping, social media, and technology were all brand new to me.

Some days it feels like I’m learning an entirely new language.

And if I’m being honest, my ADHD brain is usually juggling ten ideas at once. One minute I’m dreaming up a new succulent workshop, the next I’m painting pots, and before I know it, I’m halfway through updating my website when another idea pops into my head. It’s a little chaotic… but it’s also how Tangled Roots keeps growing.

The photo with this post was taken in October 2023, and it always makes me smile. 

That little white tent was where everything started to change.  Up until then, I had been selling mostly houseplants. One day, almost on a whim, I brought trays of succulents, a handful of fun pots, one choice of pebbles and a simple idea:

What if people could create their own arrangement instead of just buying one?

I didn’t have a business plan for a potting bar.

I didn’t have a marketing strategy.

I definitely didn’t know that one little setup under that white tent would completely change the direction of my business.

Looking back now, I realize that wasn’t just another market. It was the beginning of Tangled Roots Potting Bar as you know it today.

Three years later, the tent looks different. The website is finally coming together. The parties have grown beyond anything I ever imagined. But one thing hasn’t changed…

Whether they’re visiting me under my bright lime green tent at a market or sitting around my potting table by the pool, I still love watching people forget about the outside world for a little while, laugh, get creative, and leave with something they made with their own hands.

That’s why I started this blog.

Here you’ll find behind-the-scenes stories, new products, funny moments, lessons I’ve learned, successes, mistakes, and probably plenty of stories about what happens when someone who’d rather be digging in the dirt has to figure out computers.

You’ll also get a sneak peek at new ideas before anyone else, updates on upcoming events, and maybe even a few projects that don’t quite go as planned. (Those usually make the best stories anyway!)
